Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is a gentle, grounded form of yoga that uses floor-supported postures held for 3-5 minutes and approached with an attitude of compassionate acceptance. These postures are supported by blankets, blocks and bolsters to encourage stillness and contemplation, which reinvigorate the more gentle (Yin) parts of our physical, emotional and spiritual selves.
Yin Yoga promotes the flow of energy through the energy channels of our bodies by allowing us to approach the natural edges of our bodily sensations without striving beyond them. This helps us release stress and tension in the body and bring greater overall health to our bodies (with specific benefit to the pelvis, hips, and lower spine), and balance to our busy Yang (active) lives. In the stillness we may encounter our more subtle emotions, and the practitioner often finishes in a meditative state.
Simply put: Yin Yoga increases flexibility, promotes health, and increases calm in a way that counteracts the busy do-ing-ness of our daily lives.
